Serra Honors 41 young persons from 28 parishes at its Annual Youth Appreciation Day.
Each year the Serra Club of Saginaw holds its Youth Appreciation Day at which it honors young adults for their exemplary work in their respective parishes. "This year we had a record number of recipients" said Marian Moll, the chairperson of the event. The honorees, accompanied by their parents, parish priests and youth ministers, listened to a encouraging message from Fr. David Jenuwine, Parochial Administrator of Mt. St. Joseph in St. Louis and St. Mary in Alma. His message encouraged them to listen to their vocational calling, whatever it may be, and to be attentive and open-minded as to God's call. Each awardee received a Certificate of Appreciation and a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble Book Store. The Serra Club thanks all those in attendance and especially John and Marian Moll, the chairpersons of this event. Nouvel Sophomore class travels to learn about vocations.
The Nouvel sophomore boys travelled to Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, Michigan on Friday, April 1. Father Andy Booms (St. Michael Parish, Port Austin) and Seminarian Andrew LaFramboise lead us on a tour of the seminary's facilities. Deacon Nate Harburg, soon to be ordained our diocese's newest priest helped answer questions and celebrate Holy Mass. The beautiful liturgy was held in the incredible Sacred Heart chapel. Let's hear from some of the comments collected when we got back to class and talked about the trip to Sacred Heart Seminary:

Emmaus House Shirley's Angels Award by Sr. Marietta Fritz
Emmaus House, our home for women coming from jail/prison/rehab on the east side of Saginaw, has a multitude of angels/volunteers. Each year at the December Emmaus House board party an award is presented to one (or two this year,s) outstanding, self-giving volunteers. The recipients receive a plaque stating: "This angel has consistently and faithfully carried the message of God's love and caring to all at the Emmaus House."
For 2010 the honored volunteers are Barbara Slodowski and Jean Seman. Barbara has been volunteering for many years, doing whatever needs to be done here at Emmaus. Barb helps take care of our yards, cleans out freezers, gets the gas for our cars, collects donations, and is at Emmaus at least 3 to 4 days per week. Jean Seman is our Emmaus House Board Chair, and is best known for the fact that she gave at least three months of her life to making our fund raiser, a silent auction/dinner, a success.
The 1st Annual Emmaus House "Second Chance" Dinner to benefit the Emmaus House of Saginaw was held at the Horizon Conference Center on October 13. The event was a huge success. Our own Jean Seman chaired the event that was attended by more than 200 people and raised more than $15,000. Learn more about the Event by clicking here. See photos.
